The school year is quickly coming to an end. It is hard to believe there are only three weeks left until summer vacation begins. These last three weeks will be very busy with finishing courses, exams and year-end excursions.
Elementary house leagues are winding down for the year. The teams are just completing kickball and it is the last sport. The Mean Machines completed the year with the highest total. The sportspersons of the year will be given out towards the end of school.
Grades 1 to 6 had their last swimming lesson June 9. They travelled to the North Battleford Aquatic Centre for five two-hour lessons. It is an important part of the physical education program.
Autumn Amson and Jocelyn Bzdel attended the High School Provincial Track and Field Meet in Moose Jaw on the weekend. There were a lot of very strong competitors and the girls did their best. Congratulations to both girls for making it to provincials.
Several students will be attending the district playoffs in junior golf this week. Hopefully the weather co-operates so that they are able to play.
Mr. Nickell and several of the Grade 10, 11 and 12 students ventured to Ranger Lake for a day of canoeing practice, June 9. They will be leaving June 25 for a three-day trip in Northern Saskatchewan.
The Grades 1 to 6 classes attended the musical, The Wizard of Oz, at the Dekker Centre, June 10. It was a production done by the Battlefords' Children Choirs and Kamala Youth Choir. One of MCS's kindergarten students, Anneka Harder, was in the production. It is a very familiar story and the students enjoyed it very much!
The Grades 1 to 6 students will be attending the track and field meet in Hafford Friday, weather permitting. Hafford hosts this annually and Maymont students are very fortunate to be invited to attend. It is a fun day and a good way to make new friends.
Grades 7 and 8 have a year-end camping trip planned for June 23 to June 25. They will be going to Little Loon Lake for some outdoor education and fun.
The Grade 9 class is planning a year-end excursion but plans have not been finalized. One part of their day will be spent at the Friesen Farm for something to eat.
The K-6 classes will travel to North Battleford June 20. Their day will be spent bowling, eating and swimming.
A new travel club has started for spring of 2016. It is open to this year's Grade 9 and 10 classes. The group will be travelling to Switzerland and Italy.
