Rider season is in full swing love the commanding season-opener win. You know Unity is bleeding green and cheering hard.
What will our summer weather consist of? After heading to the southeastern part of the province the weekend of July 4 for provincials, we have absolutely not one thing to complain about. Those poor people will be cleaning up for some time.
Unity rocked the ball diamonds the weekend of July 4 to 6 when three teams captured provincial titles. The Squirt Panthers returned to Regina, after getting rained out the previous weekend, to win their squirt B provincial softball title while the Unity Peewee Panthers captured their peewee "B" provincial title on home turf. And the UK Royals junior women's team were three-peat champions, winning a very exciting final in the last bat of the last inning in Moosomin. They will now be team Saskatchewan 1 at the Western Canadian Junior Women's Fastball Championships to be held in Winnipeg this August.
Now we wait for the Unity bantam softball team to compete July 18 weekend while baseball provincials will also take place in the next two weeks in July. Stay tuned for updates on these teams.
Well we tried again and once again we missed the mark. Unity did not advance in the TSN Kraft Hometown Tour, however Prince Albert did so let's give them our support as the only Sask participant. I do have to question how Ottawa qualified? How can the nation's capital need money for sports funding?
Summer Fun Centre has begun and is a great place for kids ages five to 11 to spend some time this summer if they are bored. The program runs Monday to Friday at the community centre.
The swimming pool has had to reduce some hours due to lifeguard shortages due to some unforeseen medical issues. Please be sure to check the signs at the pool or the Town of Unity website for updates.
Our fabulous museum grounds have always been a whirlwind of photo shoots. The fabulous background, rustic props and unique photo layouts it offers makes it a popular venue for special occasion photos. Isn't this one more great reason to support your local museum?
The sad truth this year is, even with multiple callouts for help, the museum is understaffed. In essence, what this means is that there may be days when no one will be able to open up, however there are phone numbers on the gate you can call if needed. A summer guide is still needed. Please consider volunteering at this fine venue, a huge part of our community culture, tradition and heritage.
Coffee row enjoys the discussion on weather, changing weather patterns and theories for upcoming summer weather. They are happily discussing this year's farming season. These folks also enjoy reliving the latest ball game from the diamonds, or predicting what this year's Rider season will hold. So you see we keep busy in Unity with activities and wisdom from our friends on coffee row. Until next week.
