June 28, sometime during the night, Paynton Post Office was broken into. Stealing all of the mail and parcels, the thieves left only a pile of glass and a damaged door frame. Post master Betty-Ann Stewart was upset about the ordeal as she swept the mess up Tuesday morning while waiting on the new door.
This comes only a week after Paynton was vandalized and burglarized by people who seemed to also be looking mainly for information. Leather jackets and CDs were left behind, while glove boxes were rummaged through. Residents were finding other people's debit cards on the roads in the village for a couple of days.
I suppose this is a reminder that even though we live in a small community, safety is still an issue. To help avoid identity theft, checking your mailbox daily and keeping vehicles locked is a good idea.
