The funeral of a first cousin, Camille Haegebaert, was held at Notre Dame Catholic Church few weeks ago. He travelled extensively once his six children were grown up.
The Cochin live theatrical play was entertaining Nov. 28. A group of 10 of us from Mayfair usually take in their dinner theatres. A well-performed comedy always has the crowd in laughter.
Beautiful weather for the craft and trade show at Hafford this past Saturday brought many older people out in the morning and for lunch at the concession. The flow of the people certainly slowed down in the afternoon, so the vendors packed up an hour early to go home.
Approximately two months ago, I started using Sunset Gourmet products and really liked them. Yes, you guessed it, I am now a consultant. Once a person tastes something they like, the word spreads. Trade shows require carrying heavy boxes, decorations, and other tools, but one meets many nice people. A good day, all in all.
Sunday, we had a scrumptious turkey dinner with all the trimmings, assorted casseroles, a variety of salads and the list could go on. Everyone commented on the meal, which was a bargain at only $6. The Christmas program included Rev. Don Unger from Rabbit Lake with a Christmas Christian message of hope and peace in this turbulent world. Three wee ones, Tucker Strain and Parker and Keri Sevick, performed for the first time by singing on stage. Cecile Small, a retired French teacher from Saskatoon presently residing in Hafford, told a true-life story. Joseph Sopiwnyk played guitar and sang. There were piano duets by Teresa Toews and Elaine Woloshyn and a small skit titled Delicious Dilemmas featured Lorna Buziak, Anne Van Nortwick, Adgerine McNutt and Elaine Woloshyn. The Catholic Church choir with nine members and our local priest performed. Members of the choir are Rick and Valerie Taylor, Peter Babiy, Keith Liebaert, Sharon Babiy, Marguerite Wintonyk, Father Vu, Lorena Lafreniere, Cheryl Bulmer and Elaine Woloshyn. Anne Van Nortwick gave a Christmas reading and Keith Liebaert and Lorena Lafreniere had the crowd do a singsong accompanied by Elaine Woloshyn of the piano.
A big thank you to Shirley Lamontagne, Teresa Toews, and Ruby Rafuse for doing the kitchen work and Keith Liebaert for being the MC. The crowd appreciated our efforts for organizing this event and next year we have an interested individual from Spiritwood who wants the audience to explode with laughter. The money raised will be donated to The Empty Stocking Fund in North Battleford.
I met Cecile Small just one day earlier at the Hafford craft sale and she was willing to be on the program. Some people need to get begged to come, but she has such a delightful, willing personality and I'm sure we'll be seeing more of her. Others sound like they are committed and then do not show up. Enthusiastic and positive people are ones that you want to be around.
Another baby boy was born Dec. 7 to make child number eight in the Delores (Kent) Mishleau family from Northfield, Minn. Delores is a daughter to Edna Rogers of Mayfair who is now a proud grandmother to 12 grandchildren. Baby's name is Silas Cornelius, weighing in at eight pounds, 13 ounces.
Old Mill Players has already had their first reading of the play they will be presenting in February. Deloris Buckingham is the new director and former actress with the club.
The last dance session will be held Tuesday, Dec. 15. Anyone wanting an exciting evening is invited to attend for only $5. There will be free draws and games and of course a delicious lunch included in this price. The person who dresses in the most attractive Christmas themed clothing will win a prize. Doors will be open at 7 p.m. at the Mayfair Hall.
Many of us are still wearing shoes outdoors as the warm weather permits us to do so. Snow is still very scarce, but by Dec. 25 I'm sure there will be a white Christmas, because we do live on the prairies. Winter boots can't stay in storage for all of December. Snowmobilers are heading to the mountains for a bit of action, as it is impossible to use these machines in our part of the country. Most ski hills have been open in the mountains since the beginning of November. Nephew Gordon Lacoursiere and family from Delmas have already been there skiing and snowboarding. Everybody loves to enjoy the great outdoors when the temperatures are reasonable.
