Tearrius George and Brent Hawkins drew a continuous flow of fans who kept the cooks busy at the tailgate party hosted by the Co-op. It was a post-harvest celebration for many and a chance to show support for our favourite guys on the gridiron.

Because proceeds from the event were earmarked for War Amps, a CFL initiative, local 13-year-old, Riley DeBelser, was chosen as an "honorary Rider," giving her the chance to sit with the Riders for the event. War Amps provided play safe stickers and handouts.

"We would have never expected to have the privilege of having Saskatchewan Roughrider players at our location twice in one season, but it was a terrific experience," said store manager Marvin Phillips.

"The players are so approachable to their fans which helps add the community atmosphere to the event."

The Riders were a little late in arriving, which had some fans missing their appearance. Delta Co-op apologized but, as some fans put it, "Where else but in Saskatchewan do you get professional athletes to drive themselves to a community five hours from their home, apologize when they arrive and spend the next two hours making sure the fans that came knew they appreciated their support?"

Both players said they gained a new appreciation for the trek Rider fans make to their home games when they realized, upon their arrival, that it really is a five-hour drive to get to Unity from Regina.

Fans were anxious to quiz the players on the feeling in the locker room, when Hawkins was due to return to the lineup and to congratulate number 93, George, on the fantastic game he played Sept. 29 against the B.C. Lions.
