The buzz around town

January is starting to buzz in Maidstone. As usual, the arena is a busy place with figure skating, hockey, curling and school activities but there are other activities coming up beyond the ice. Jan.

January is starting to buzz in Maidstone.

As usual, the arena is a busy place with figure skating, hockey, curling and school activities but there are other activities coming up beyond the ice.

Jan. 14, the Maidstone and District Historical Society is hosting a Texas Hold 'em Poker Tournament at the Maidstone Legion Hall beginning with registration at 6 p.m. For more information or to register please call Mick at 306-893-4316 or Lois at 306-893-4005.

The Royal Canadian Legion Clubroom in Maidstone is hosting a shuffleboard tournament Jan. 14 and 15 with cash prizes. Entries are being taken at the club room or by phone at 306-893-4048.

Eight weeks of yoga classes will be starting Jan.17. Classes are held at the Maidstone Seniors' Drop-In Centre and this session is called Yoga for the Chakras. To learn more about the yoga classes or to register please call Shannon at 306-893-2551.

Jan. 19 the Drop-In Centre will be holding a chilli on a bun lunch at noon. The cost is $6 per person and everyone is invited.

The Maidstone School Community Council is throwing a Snow Ball Thursday, Jan. 27 at the Maidstone High School gymnasium. A free beef on a bun supper will start at 6:30 p.m. followed by dessert and a dance. Everyone is welcome but all guests under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

At the arena, the schedule is full including a Synergy Open Cash Spiel Jan.13-15. Curlers can register by calling Jeff at 306-893-2423.

The next two home games for the Maidstone Jets in the NSRHL will be held Jan. 14 against Wilkie and Jan. 15 against Spiritwood. Both games will be held at 8 p.m.

The month of January always seems to start off slowly, but there is always something to look forward to.
