Tee up for a round in Wilkie

It's that time of year again when you can hear the whir of the golf carts, the thwack of the golf club and, once in a while; the yell of "fore." It's officially golf season. The Wilkie Golf Club is up and running for the season; doors opened May 10.

It's that time of year again when you can hear the whir of the golf carts, the thwack of the golf club and, once in a while; the yell of "fore." It's officially golf season.

The Wilkie Golf Club is up and running for the season; doors opened May 10. While the club is usually open by the first week of May, it opened a bit behind schedule due to water on the course. But that seems par for many courses this year.

Water aside, the course is ready to go, with past members renewing their memberships and new members signing up. There are approximately 100 adult members, 10 university-aged members as well as between 20 to 25 junior members who enjoy the course.

Tournaments and activities are already scheduled for the season, the first being the Jack and Jill Tournament, a two-day event which will be held June 1weekend. McLurg High School will be using the course for an event scheduled for June 11 and the seniors' tournament will be held June 20. There is usually a fall scramble, for which the date is yet to be determined.

Every Wednesday night is two-ball night, which is open to both male and female golfers; members and non-members. Different businesses from Wilkie, Landis, Unity and North Battleford sponsor the nights with different prizes available to be won. The night is a great social event for the community which encourages the everyday golfer to come out and enjoy the evening.

The clubhouse is open to the public, with coffee on and lunches available and has a wonderful atmosphere for group parties and functions.
