The new exhibition in the Window Salon of the Chapel Gallery features drawings by two artists using the blind contour technique.
This technique for developing hand-eye communication became popular in the 1940s.The artist looks only at the model while drawing the outline of the image on the page.
Sarah Jane Holtom has produced a number of drawings of her dog nestled among pillows to create a light and airy feeling while Brandan Doty has followed the puck in a hockey game to produce images that show movement and action.
This technique is used to create strong conceptual images that are not heavy with detail.
This exhibition is curated by Heather Smith of the Moose Jaw Art Gallery and Museum. It is sponsored by the Battlefords Allied Arts Council and is touring through the Organization of Allied Arts Councils. The exhibition is at the Chapel Gallery until Feb. 15.
