This week we are going to bring you up to date on the curling challenge that was played out at the Edam curling rink between the staff and students of H. Hardcastle School. I had reported last week that the students thought they would show up their teachers. These reports were announced over the intercom Friday.

Hunter Goodall: "Hi, I'm Hunter Goodall and am part of the junior curling team. Thursday we curled against the teachers. In the first end we managed a steal of two, and we had a repeat performance in the second. In the third end we broke down and gave the teachers a point. It was a point that would cost us. We went into the fourth end up by three and let them have three points to tie the game. In the fifth the teachers managed to get another single point. Going home in the sixth and final end we needed two points to win the game. We had the two points in the house and gave it right to the teachers. We ended up losing six to four. Our team consisted of me, Lindon Goodall (skip), Brady Deobald, Tanner Long, Isaiah Morin and Ryan Bec and we curled against Mr. Lee (second), Mrs. Deobald (skip), Mrs. Long (lead) and Mrs. Pollard (third).

Jesse Cadrain: "Now for the seniors! Our team consisted of me (skip), Kaitlyn McCarthy, Hailey Shewchuk, Mason Detillieux, and Brittany Bec. We curled against Mrs. de Montarnal (lead), Miss Wallebeck (second), Mr. Gateley (third) and Mr. Nordell (skip). First end we were up to a quick lead and scored three. The teachers made a quick recovery and some good game calling managed to give the teachers two points. In the third, it was not looking good for us. The teachers were laying two and great shooting by all the teachers and Mr. Nordell choking off all options for us to even score one point. The only shot we had was a tough double take out that involved some serious angles and velocity questions. But as it goes the seniors never back down and I managed to make the shot and scored one! Four to two in the fourth, and because of the madly insane skill of the seniors we stole on the fourth and fifth. Up by four going into the last end we began to get cocky and could taste the victory. This caused us to allow the teachers to take four and tie the game. In the extra end there was great shot making and strategizing by both teams, but as usual, we pulled out the win and beat the teachers. It was a great job done by all curlers and thanks to all who came out to watch. We were able to raise $75 to send to Telemiracle."

Friday, March 8, was the St. Patrick Day bingo held by the Handi-Van Committee. This month's winners of $10/game were Teta Harty (2), Brennan Seipp, Andrew Seipp, Huguette MacGregor, Brenda Pollard, Barb Blaquiere/Margo Young-Brewster (split), Zach Curry, Ryan Becotte, and Zach Curry/Annette Blaquiere (split). There were two grocery hampers this month and winners were Kay Mannix and Barb Blaquiere. Kids' prizes were donated by the Bec family with the winners being Anthony Seipp and Ryan Bec. Congratulations to all the winners. The final bingo of the season will be held April 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the seniors' centre.

Congratulations to the February trip of the month winners. Barry and Dianne Weitzel of Edam, along with Ashton and Marla Weber of Lloydminster who won $100.

Thinking of purchasing a garden shed? You just might be able to win the one that the curling club is raffling off. It is an eight-foot by 12-foot garden shed/ice shack donated by RAW Construction. Tickets are on sale from any curling club member or at the Edam post office. Tickets are $5 each or five for $20, with the draw March 24 at the open bonspiel.
