Tea parties are so much fun

The sign on the door is a big sunflower that says "Mom's Kitchen, Open 24/7." What it doesn't say is, "I make breakfasts, dinners, suppers, snacks, tea parties, funeral lunches, feed family gatherings and deliver meals to the field.

August is tea party month and today I'm making up the menu. Cream puffs are the favourite, cupcakes a must. In past years, we celebrated the Queen Mother's birthday (Aug. 4) because Grandma Cunningham was the same age.

Now we choose a new reason to have a party. This year is the Queen's jubilee year and my granddaughter Emilie's 16th birthday. Come early! It takes a while to try on dresses, choose the "right" one and the accessories to go with it. Hats are a must at a garden party. Don't forget the hair-dos and makeup. Shall we bring the dolls or the kittens? The kittens win.

The table's set, the tea is made, who will pour the first cup? Let's drink a toast: "To the Queen," "to Emilie."
