Anyone interested in the fantastic story of Henry Beaudry’s life should find a copy of the News-Optimistdated Feb. 9. It is most interesting what all this 94-year-old veteran has lived to tell. He continues to paint pictures that tell a story.
Daughter Joyce Rowland in New Zealand was fascinated with the fireworks in Adelaide recently, but in comparison to those that were set off in China in 2000 when Ken Parker was there, were small stuff. When Ken was teaching there the teachers were bussed to one of four spots in Beijing and fireworks went off for 90 minutes steadily at each spot. They were celebrating 50 years of communist government. Even the small boats cruising around the lake had firework displays going on. They are the inventors of fireworks, so must have the best. Ken has an extended vacation planned to return to China this spring.

The February library report tells us that February is “love your library” month. They are still working on inventory. Feb. 21-27 is “freedom to read” week and they have a list of banned books, which includes Tom Sawyer, Paper Town and others. A printer has been installed for the use of the librarian. A fully operational printer will be purchased with funds supplied by the Meota Lakeshore Lions Club. The Village has put lock boxes over the thermostats in the building. “Hoopla” is a new service the library is offering starting Jan. 28 – need more info on that one. The winter reading program is now on at the library – read three books and enter your name to win an ice cream maker. The contest ends Feb. 29.

The pussy willows are coming out in southern Alberta and their snow is long gone. Our dump Monday morning was soon pushed about and melting as the day proceeded. It’s good to see the snow machines running around and folks out on the lake fishing. Nice holiday weather on Monday for everyone.
The monthly luncheon at the Community Complex is Friday. See you there.
