An event that has grown in popularity since 2008 has a new time frame this year.

In past years, A Taste of Culture has been held at the same time as Agri-Mex, the Battlefords Agricultural Society's annual spring trade show. This year's event, the sixth annual, will be moved to the end of May.

The dates of A Taste of Culture, presented by the Battlefords Immigration Resource Centre, will be Thursday, May 30, Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1.

The annual showcase of food and entertainment from around the world will again be held at the Western Development Museum, where it was relocated two years ago after outgrowing the original venue of the Agrivilla, on the exhibition grounds.

The event has become so well attended seating has become an issue. So, organizers decided to move the date to later in the year when the weather was warmer and they could use the Summer Hall, a large but unheated area of the museum, for seating.

"We've gone from zero seating to 400," says Battlefords Immigration Resource Centre executive director Jennifer Niesink of the evolution of A Taste of Culture.

Having the Summer Hall for seating will also increase the amount of entertainment they will be able to showcase. Where the entertainment was previously in the Muse Theatre, it will now take place in last year's seating area, in the lobby between the theatre and banquet hall, where the food booths are located.

The timing also makes more entertainment available, says Niesink, because the weeks leading up to Agri-Mex are busy with music and dance festivals.

Niesink says the line up of food vendors for this year's event should be finalized within a few weeks.
