Prairie North Health Region is issuing an alert to skiers and snowboarders at Table Mountain Regional Park for the month of March. Wear a helmet, get a ticket!

Prairie North Health Region employees and staff at Table Mountain will be ticketing skiers and snowboarders of all ages for wearing helmets. But these aren't ordinary tickets - they are part of a positive ticketing campaign spearheaded by Prairie North Health Region with the support of Table Mountain Regional Park Management aimed at rewarding people for doing good things.

"Not only are we rewarding people for promoting safety and physical activity, but we're recognizing them as role models in their community," says Ashley White, an educator with Prairie North's Population Health Promotion Unit.

Those "caught" will be rewarded with an iTunes gift card.

Richmond, B.C. RCMP superintendant Ward Clapham first introduced positive ticketing with a vision to "imagine cops catching kids for doing things right."

Since the introduction of the program, positive ticketing has been used by law enforcement, business and others in communities across Canada to build relationships with young people.

This pilot project is funded by Prairie North Health Region - Population Health Promotion Unit.
