Sump pump sales will be brisk this spring

After two weeks on the white sand beaches of Veradero, Cuba, Shelly and I arrived back to the white snow banks of Rabbit Lake! Man, it had snowed even more after we left.

After two weeks on the white sand beaches of Veradero, Cuba, Shelly and I arrived back to the white snow banks of Rabbit Lake! Man, it had snowed even more after we left. Ironically, we had decided to take some snow pictures and snow scenery to develop prior to take off. Last year the Cuban people were curious about snow and this year was no different. What I learned from this little exercise is that all things are relative. Here we stood at a beautiful resort, palm trees waving in the ocean breeze, turquoise water lapping at the white sand shore and the smell of the tropics all around us, when our Cuban friends, looking at the photos did not say anything about cold rather saying, "It's beautiful!" Hoar frost is beautiful, sundogs can be beautiful, northern lights are beautiful but somehow that is not the way I would describe the piles of snow.

While on the topic of snow, Doug Lamb is the official record keeper of all things weather related and according to him we have had 44 inches of that "beautiful" white stuff this winter. There is no fear of not having enough snow for the March 2 snow machine rally being sponsored by the Rabbit Lake Agricultural Association. Come out and enjoy a day in the snow.

From the look of our yard I know that I will not be going far from home until the end of April for fear the sump pump might not cut in. The water table is very high from last year. Cornie Martens has been monitoring the sump pump in the station and it has run all winter. This might be the year to purchase a sewer back up plug for any basement floor drains. There has been some damaged roofs reported and many people have been up there shovelling the snow off.

The Rabbit Lake Community Hall board hosted the annual Shrove Tuesday supper Feb. 12. About 60 people made pancakes and sausage their supper. On Feb. 20 the Rabbit Lake Seniors held their monthly potluck supper. After supper the group shared proverbs and sayings and then Shelly and I spoke about Cuba.

Feb. 6 was a special day for Tim and Tara Haryung. That is the day that Ty Allen was born, a brother for Mia. Grandparents are Larry and Linda Liddell and Dwayne Haryung and Darlene Pierce. Congratulations to Tim and Tara and welcome to Ty!

Over the next few weeks there will be some interesting evenings in the village. Feb. 27 there was a community planning and development meeting at Lake Senior Sunrise Circle. This meeting was a joint venture between the RM of Round Hill and the Village of Rabbit Lake.

March 1, the Rose Gill Lodge will be hosting an evening Kaiser tournament. The admission is $10, which includes a lunch. The proceeds go to the resident fund

March 4, the Rabbit Lake Community Hall Board will be holding its annual general meeting at the hall at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend and your ideas are encouraged.

Shelly and I along with Claus and Cyndy Spielmann took in the 13th annual drama production of the Old Mill Players at Mayfair. The supper was excellent and the drama was funny to say the least. Hats go off to the cast and crew, to director Shiela Bachledor, to the Mayfair Recreation Board and all the volunteers who keep that event going.
