It's time for the Northern Lights Bluegrass and Old Tyme Music Festival at Ness Creek. This summertime favourite will run Friday, Aug. 16 through to Sunday, Aug. 18. This year's musicians feature Whitetop Mountain Band, Get Down Boys, The Western Senators, the Carper Family, The Kluane Grass, Buffalo Narrows, Binder Twin and the Balers and Raven She Hollers. There will be Sunday morning gospel with Irvin Amundson. This is the eighth annual event, which also teams up with a music camp that runs several days prior to the festival. It's hosted by the Northern Lights Bluegrass and Old Tyme Music Society, a non-profit society that promotes bluegrass and old time music throughout Saskatchewan and beyond.

Closer to the Battlefords, Saturday, Aug. 17 will see the Hatherleigh Jamboree starting at noon. Look for Redberry Grass, Dwight Hemmerling, Ivar Thomas, Sheritta Kaypeaysewat, John Archer, Larry Symynuk, Dennis Pidwebeski and Chelsey Beckman to perform.

There will be gospel music in North Battleford Sunday, Aug. 18 as the Reclaim Outreach Centre holds its annual jamboree at 962-102nd St. Bring your own lawn chairs.

Summer camps and carnivals for kids abound throughout the area between now and the start of school.

Monday, Aug. 19 through to Friday, Aug. 23 there will be a Jungle Adventure for kids of all ages at the Territorial Drive Alliance Church in North Battleford. There will be games, puppets, crafts, Bible stories, chalk drawing, singing and yummy snacks. Parents are welcome to attend as well and all children under age four need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

On Wednesday, Aug. 28, there will be a Kids' Carnival at Emmanuel Pentecostal Fellowship at 1232-104th St. in North Battleford. Expect balloons, games, shows, prizes, clowns and food. It is free to all.

The weeks of Aug. 19 to 23 and Aug. 26 to 30 will see a theatre camp experience for kids age seven to 14 at Third Avenue United Church in North Battleford. Presented by Allegriya Children's Theatre, the North Battleford dates are among six weeks of camps being held this summer, with the others taking place in Warman and Dalmeny. On the agenda are music, dance and drama along with fun, creativity and teamwork. Participants can look forward to taking part in a musical production of The Lorax and Wreck it Ralph. Amber Bloom, holder of a degree in theatre from the University of Alberta, is the founder and director of Allegriya Children's Theatre.
