Summer passes in a whirl of visitors

Hello again! The summer has passed by so quickly, but I do hope everyone had a lovely one. We certainly couldn't complain about the weather. Most days were nice and warm.

Hello again! The summer has passed by so quickly, but I do hope everyone had a lovely one. We certainly couldn't complain about the weather. Most days were nice and warm. I know many of our tenants really enjoyed visiting and having company with family and friends this summer.

Ken and Anna Tucker had visitors from Beaconsfield, Que. Then Ken's cousin and a friend spent a very pleasant afternoon on Aug. 16.

Then the Tuckers spent a few days at Meadow Lake Provincial Park camping and fishing with their son and his family last week.

I'm sure you enjoyed visits from your friends and family folks.

July 1, Eric and Louise Haubold's daughter, Lynn Kahl, picked them up to take them to their park where they had spent many days and years golfing and volunteering. July 1 is a big celebration every year with pancake breakfast, music from 2 to 8 p.m., then fireworks after dark. A great time to meet many old acquaintances, too.

Aug. 9, 10 and 11 Eric and Louise's family decided to have a family reunion for them. They were taken out to the park again. A great time was had with all family members consisting of two daughters and a son, nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Too bad three were missing. This was the highlight of their summer. Louise and Eric enjoyed the games, coffee row and meeting with other tenants here in Tower II. They wish everyone a good fall.

Thanks to Ida Baker who does a good job of organizing our "entertainment" and our "suppers" here at the Tower.

July 4, the Lowens entertained us, which was enjoyed by all.

July 10, Second to None catered and served a tasty cold plate supper for us.

July 7, Ida went to Bigger. Four of her sisters met (including her). They stayed at her sister's place. They drove to where they used to live by, a little place called Oban, and to the North of Biggar Church where her mother, dad and sister were laid to rest. Ida was in Biggar for three days.

Aug. 2, Ida's sister and nephew from Biggar visited her. Ida's daughter came over to see them too.

Aug. 14, Second to None catered a delicious supper again.

Aug. 15, John Archer and friends entertained us with their great music and singing.

Aug. 22, Ida went to Biggar to visit with her sister overnight.

It sounds like you had a very busy summer Ida. I am sure you enjoyed all your visits.

Aug. 12, Bev McCrimmon and Barb Foot drove a group of nine ladies from Tower II on an afternoon jaunt in the country to Arlene Walker's farm. We enjoyed coffee and dainties and the garden and flowers in the yard. We saw her craft work, which is excellent. The old log house where we had coffee was restored and made into an antique house. We all went to the corrals to see the Norwegian Fjord horses. They were very friendly and came over to see everyone. It was a very interesting afternoon and enjoyed by all of us. Thank you to Bev and Barb who drove us out to Arlene's.

Edith Lockhart was so pleased to have her daughter Elaine visit her from Kelowna, B.C. They drove to Glaslyn to visit more family and friends too.

Shirley Trebay enjoyed a lovely family supper and evening in Meota at the home of son Dale and Joyce. Present were all her four sons and four daughters-in-law, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also attended son Dennis and Juliette's annual fish fry and nice supper in Metinota including grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It was such a lovely hot day and the kids had a great time boat riding in the lake. Shirley's son Doug and Terri from Devon. Alta. visited in Meota and area for a weekend recently.

It sounds like you had a wonderful summer, Shirley, visiting with all of your family.

The month of July was very busy for Ann Ewanchuck. Starting with visiting her 97-year-old cousin Ann B. who just moved into Davidson Manor. Ann still attends the Ukrainian Church service at River Heights Lodge where she visits Lenna K., Anne K., Hellie A. and many others. Her daughter Erinka and Rory took her for a weekend at Meota on a pantoon boat. Its unbelievable how many pontoon and other boats were on the lake. She met up with her long ago farm neighbours, Nellie and Morris Woytiuk and Linda.

Ann enjoyed making supper for her neighbours, Bev and Murray McCrimmon and Shirley Tebay. She also enjoyed having Roxanne, Larissa and Darica with little great-great-grandchild Ava.

With her friend Jeanie Penzie, Ann was in charge of the guest register at the little Ukrainian thatched roof house on the museum grounds. One couple was from Africa, another couple were from Halifax, N.S. They remarked that North Battleford people are very friendly and the hotel rooms are a reasonable price. Her great-grandchildren, twins Kiara and Kiandra celebrated their 16th birthday at their Leska's place.

Ann's granddaughter Daniele Scherger drove them to Whitkow to her son Orest and wife Chrissy's place for her 86th birthday supper.

Ann wishes the lady who borrowed her Savella Stechyshen History Book - it has a white cover with red poppies - would please return it.

You seemed to have had a very nice summer, Ann.

I think the highlight of my summer was in July when we celebrated my daughter Darline's 65th birthday at Travessa Beach. My granddaughter and son-in-law organized it so that it was like a Kendall reunion, as most of the family were present including grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It was a lovely warm weekend so everyone could celebrate and visit outside. It was a great surprise for Darline, too, as many of her friends attended that she hadn't seen for a long time. No matter what occasion is celebrated it's so nice just to get together to visit with family and friends.

Cecile Depuis had a pleasant surprise this summer when her brother Gilbert and his wife Jackie came down from Port Albernie B.C. to celebrate Jackie's twin sister's 75th birthday. I'm sure you had a wonderful visit.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to all of Mary Birche's family. She passed away just recently. Mary lived in our Tower and was a lovely lady. We will all miss her.

Welcome to all of our new tenants. It is nice to see so many newcomers in Tower II now.

This is all the news for now. I do hope we have a lovely September, too. But being we can't change the weather, enjoy each day as it comes, eh folks?

Take care till next month.
