Twenty-eight members of the Rivers' Edge Quilt Guild and five guests were treated to an early fall harvest of quilts and quilted items during the "show and tell" part of the first business meeting of the year held at the Don Ross Craft Room, Friday, Sept. 5 at 1 p.m.

The display was a testament to the industry and creativity of guild members during the summer months.

The upcoming schedule for the year is a busy one with plans already set for technical instructional sessions for paper piecing, hand quilting, a disappearing nine-patch block and quilt-as-you-go. Other in-house sessions include classes for making quilted bags and potholders, all in time for Christmas gift giving. A special thank you to the program committee for the organization.

In addition to personal projects, guild members are mindful of the part they can play in community support and a date has been set for the sewing of comfort quilts for the local care facilities, Empty Stocking Fund, the homeless and animal shelter.

The in-house quilt marathon, planned for November, is an opportunity for members to participate in three days of intensive sewing, interspersed with fun activities and fellowship. Interested members are also invited to attend a three-day retreat hosted by Ilene's Quilting Plus in Unity with dates available in September and November. Much can be accomplished in three days.

The guild welcomes the guests and prospective members who attended this first meeting of the quilt year and an invitation is extended to others, beginners or experienced, who would like to join in the future. Meetings take place in the craft room on the first Friday of each month at 1 p.m. For further information, please contact Carol at 306-445-4352 or Barb at 306-445-0486.
