Summer in Lakeland Library Region

We are well into summer now (how time flies!), and there is all sorts of excitement here in libraryland. We are of course participating in the TD Summer Reading Club (http://tdsummerreadingclub.ca/). This year's theme, Go!, is all about travel, adventure and expanding horizons. It's not too late for kids to sign up, just go to your local library and ask at the desk. Registration gets you greater access to activities on the website and a passport to fill up with books as you read them.

Lakeland has its own summer program in keeping with the Summer Reading Club theme. Stop by your local branch to pick up our passports, identify all the Lakeland locations pictured in the passport, and you'll be eligible to win our grand prizes: an iPod shuffle with an iTunes gift card for children and a Kobo eReader for teens! We also have our Lakeland Summer Players touring the region with their popular children's show. Contact headquarters or your local branch for dates and times.

Each of our branches provides a range of programs and events for people of all ages and interests, from art clubs to story times, book clubs to reptile show and tells. For details, go to the events page on the Lakeland website (www.lakeland.lib.sk.ca) or the programs page on the North Battleford Public Library website (www.northbattlefordlibrary.com).

Lakeland has a new eResource for the young (and young at heart) called Tumblebooks. It provides online picture books with text and read aloud by authors and performers. You can have Robert Munsch read you I Have To Go! every night at bedtime and every morning over breakfast. We've also been working hard to expand our book and DVD collections to provide more options for everyone.

Connect with us on Facebook (www.facebook.com/lakelandlibraryregion), Twitter (@LakelandLR), or through our Teen Blog (www.lakelandteenreads.wordpress.com); send us an email ([email protected]), or contact any of our libraries. We look forward to hearing from you. See you in the library!
