Summer fun at the library

We're always busy at the library, but summer is a particularly active time, especially for children's programs. The Summer Reading Club kicks off around the region this month with a variety of story times and craft programs.

We're always busy at the library, but summer is a particularly active time, especially for children's programs.

The Summer Reading Club kicks off around the region this month with a variety of story times and craft programs. This year's theme is Eureka! so we're abuzz with ideas about discovery and creativity. Visit your local library or the Lakeland website for reading lists and program information.

This year we are also exploring traditional and digital literacy with two electronic resources, TumbleBooks and StoryBird. TumbleBooks has interactive, talking picture books that kids can read along with, as well as games, puzzles and books in other languages. It's lots of fun, great for playtime and a resource for practising literacy skills. TumbleBooks is available on the Lakeland website.

StoryBird is a self-publishing tool for children of all ages. Participants can write their own books, select professionally drawn illustrations to go with the text and have the books printed.

Summer at the library is another wonderful way to have fun.
