The fresh snow arrived at a perfect time because the school's annual Grades 4 to 12 ski trip took place on Wednesday, Feb. 24. Skiers and snowboarders enjoyed the new snow and had a great day on the hill.
The junior curling teams travelled to Unity on Tuesday to participate in the conference playoffs. The school sent two teams this year. The junior girls consisted of Janna Ferris, Jenna Fouhy, Kimberley Wawryk and Michelle Garrett. The mixed  team  consisted of Brooke Ferris, Kyle Baker, MaKenna Voegeli, Sam Kemplay and Ype Elgersma. (They may also have to play on Wednesday depending on Tuesday's results.)
The senior girls' basketball team is playing several exhibition games to prepare for their playoffs in March. They hosted Hafford before the break and will travel back to Hafford as well as Kerrobert for some games later.
In elementary house leagues, the teams are finished floor hockey and are now playing mini-basketball. This game is played with zones and players still have to make a basket to score points. They use volleyballs instead of basketballs because they are easier on the younger fingers.
Students in Grades 2 through 5 will be reading the Willow Award books and voting on their favourites. The mission of the Willow Awards is to promote reading by granting a Willow Award to the Canadian or Saskatchewan books voted by Saskatchewan students to be the best of those nominated in each designated category for a specific year. The books are very enjoyable and students enjoy knowing that their opinions matter. Voting closes at the end of March.
The spring book fair will be held the week of March 14 to 18. It will be open at recesses and noon hour during the school day and will also be open the evening of Wednesday, March 16, during student-led conferences.
The school will be closed Monday, March 7. This is a professional development day for staff in North Battleford.
