In collaboration with Dance Saskatchewan, and with the assistance of technical experts at Live Arts broadcasting, directed by Heather Cline, students in Grades 6 to 10 spent almost three hours daily learning dance under the expert direction of professional dancer Karla Kloeble. Kloeble's particular expertise is with hoops, and the students enjoyed experimenting with hula hoops used as an adjunct to dance. Thursday, Live Arts filmed two segments to live broadcast to the rest of the province. These broadcasts will now be archived and accessible to schools province wide. Maymont students shone while getting credit for arts and physical education.

On the weekend, Ty Fouhy, a Grade 9 student, participated in the Provincial Archery Competition in Prince Albert. He competed with the Battle River Archers' Club. Saturday was the Provincial JOP competition and Sunday was the Provincial Indoor Fita Competition. Ty had a great weekend of shooting.

The Grades 2 to 5 choir received their trophy from the Hafford Music Festival. It is very large and was sponsored by the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League for the top choral group. The students marvelled at the size of the trophy and decided all their hard work was worthwhile.

April 9 was Red Cross Day of Pink. This day began in 2007 after two high school students in Nova Scotia took a stand against bullying in their school. The students asked all their peers to wear pink after they heard a male classmate had been bullied for wearing a pink shirt. From the actions of these two students, the pink t-shirt movement has grown to become a worldwide symbol against bullying. The Canadian Red Cross Day of Pink campaign brings together schools throughout the province by wearing pink and taking a stand against bullying. MCS students wore pink to show their support.

Elementary house leagues have started playing handball during their noon hour gym time. This is a new sport to the program, but students are enjoying it so far.

Noon hour clubs, such as the Craft Club and Chess Club are shutting down for the year. Students are wanting to spend their noon hours outside in the fresh air, and of course, jumping in the puddles.

Doug Sevick was a teacher at Maymont School for 30 years. He is wished a happy 65th birthday.

Jean Sherman was an educational assistant at the school for several years. She is wished a speedy recovery and hope she feels better soon. She has been experiencing a lot of back pain.

Please mark Thursday, May 15, on your calendars. This will be drama/variety night at the school gym.

Many students will be dancing in the dance recital this Sunday. It will be at 2 p.m. in the gym. It is always enjoyable to watch what the dancers have learned and also to watch the young ones dance with so much joy.

Enjoy the nice weather.
