It is hard to believe it is the middle of January. The hours of sunlight are slowly increasing and we have had a few pleasant days.
The elementary students have been building forts outside. They were very thankful when Mr. Walter Guzik was subbing because he helped them chop some blocks to make a bigger fort.
Meghan and Sean Brehon and Cassidy and Katie Serhienko competed in a swim meet in North Battleford on the weekend. They reported they all did well and had fun even though they didn't break any swim records. These students are very dedicated to swimming and spend a lot of time at the pool.
Tyson and Kimberly Wawryk are on a skiing race team. They train every Saturday and Sunday at Table Mountain. They had their first race on the weekend of Jan. 18 and 19. Both Tyson and Kim qualified for the Saskatchewan Winter Games. Their younger sister, Allison, also skis and is beginning to race.
Ashton and Brayden Harris returned to school after a holiday to Oahu and Maui. Ashton plays hockey for the North Battleford Barons. He plays left wing. Ashton will be playing on the provincial team and they play their first provincial game March 3 in Warman. Good luck to Ashton and his teammates.
Thomas Elgersma , Grade 7, plays hockey with the Peewee Battleford Barons. His younger brother, Ype, is one of their backup goalies. They won the C final in a tournament in North Battleford on the weekend. Ype mentioned he was able to have some playing time.
Hailey Harris, Grade 5, plays hockey with the Saskatoon Comet Rebels. They recently played a game against the Saskatoon Comet Spitfires. They won the game and Hailey received the Super Sport award for the game.
Keeley Bzdel and Carlee Hamilton play club volleyball with the North Battleford BBC Force. They will be playing in the Saskatchewan Cup tournament this weekend. We wish them luck!
Our basketball teams are busy. The senior team hosted Cando last Thursday. Cando is a very skillful team and our senior boys improve their skills every time they play Cando. Our junior boys' basketball team hosted Spiritwood Monday.
The elementary classes are busy making posters for the Healthy Choices contest. This contest is sponsored by the Royal Purple and the school has participated for a few years. The students come up with some great ideas and create some interesting posters. We would like to thank the Royal Purple for sponsoring this valuable contest.
We wish Mrs. Twyla Stott a speedy recovery. She has been home for a week with a very sore back. We hope she is able to return to her classroom soon.
Mrs. Jackson attended a conference on Pivotal Response Training, offered by the Ministry of Health, Jan. 16 and 17. Pivotal Response Training is an evidence-based method designed for working with students with autism. It focuses on motivation, self-initiation and self-monitoring as important skills for all behaviours. Pivotal Response Training is designed as an intervention approach in areas such as communication, behaviour and social interactions.
