The winners of Waseca's Christmas lighting, sponsored by Waseca Recreation Board, have been announced. Ashley Klotz was the winner and Seanne Roswell and Nathan Gruber received second prize. Congratulations to them and to all who decorated their houses and yards for the season.

It is with great sadness that we report the death of Mary Markevich on Dec. 20 at the age of 64 years. Mary had spent many months in hospital in recent years.

Mary was the second daughter of Carl and Eva Sutherland who at that time were living in the Walter District. Mary attended both Walter and Waseca schools. In 1971, Mary married Pat Markevich. They made their home on a farm east of Waseca raising four children Doug, Trish, Rhonda and Karla.

Funeral service for Mary were held in Waseca Hall Jan. 3.

Our condolences go out to Pat and family and Mary's mother Mrs. Eva Sutherland and to her sisters and brothers.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Bill Morrant who is presently a patient in a hospital in Saskatoon.

Our condolences also go out to Marilyn (Perry) Wilson and her family on the death of her husband, Donald Wilson after a lengthy illness. Donald was born on July 17, 1948 to William and Erma Wilson, their only child, who lived in the Neilburg area. His funeral took place Dec. 31 in Neilburg.

Families and friends celebrated Christmas with many gatherings. Tammy Jack entertained her family with a party held at the Waseca Community Centre Dec. 29. Arlee Lumgair travelled to the home of her son Arthur and his wife Janelle and family near Lloydminster. Ruth Sutherland spent Christmas in Calgary with her granddaughter Kimberley. Eva Sutherland of the Pine Island Lodge enjoyed Christmas dinner with her daughter Sandra in Waseca and Christmas supper with Keith and Debra Sutherland and family. Renee and Morris Donovan travelled to Estevan to spend Christmas with Darrell and Megan Donovan. They picked up their daughter Lindsay in Saskatoon to be with them.

The above were just a few of the many family celebrations, ones that were reported.
