Happy New Year everyone! Sorry for no news over the Christmas break, but I decided to take the two weeks off along with the school kids. There wasn't a lot to report after the Christmas concerts.

So we will start with the school kids and their production Dec. 15. This year the MCs were Keiran McConnell and Brittany Nedelec. The program started with the kindergarten class bringing greetings from around the world in the languages of the nations that they chose. Each student held the flag of their country and upon completion of the greetings, they wished everyone a Merry Christmas in English and each student turned their flag around to show the Canadian flag on the back.

The Grade 1 students performed the First Noel with bells under the directions of Mrs. Pam Gordon. They then performed Santa Will Be Coming Down the Chimney to the tune of She'll Be Coming Round the Mountain, directed by Mrs. Tracy Long.

Mrs. Darcy deMontarnal's Grade 2 and 3 class recited the Christmas story of the beasts in the stable and what they witnessed. They then sang Must Be Santa.

The Grade 4 and 5 class, under the direction of Ms. Therese Gaudet, performed a skipping routine that revealed their wishes for Christmas. They were excellent at keeping the beat.

The other half of the Grade 5 class joined up with the Grade 6 students and did a number using black light to the music of Frosty the Snowman. The second number they performed was a drumming to the song All I want For Christmas Is You. They were awesome and some of the students were real "hams." It was said that these are a director's dream. They do what they are asked when they are asked.

The evening came to a close with the youngsters singing Here Comes Santa Claus, and were rewarded with the appearance of the jolly old fellow. Santa then presented candy canes to all youngsters in attendance.

Dec. 16, the Turtle River Playschool students held their Christmas concert in the Legion Hut at 7 p.m. Teacher Laurie Hamel introduced her students and they then performed several songs for family and friends. Gifts were then delivered after a visit from Santa, who gave each playschool student a treat bag.

The Handi Van bingo was held Dec. 17. The Edam General Store generously donated a ham for the evening. The winners of the games for hams were Donna Sarich, Diane Mosimann, Jeanne Pollard, Herman Hoogland, Marion Ottas (3), Jessie Armstrong, Abby Millard, and Bonnie (Braxton) Letwinetz. Winning the hampers were Jim Mosimann (both). The evening's kids' draws were won by Laney Blanchette and Jamie Millard. These prizes were donated by Jessie Armstrong. The next bingo will be held on Jan. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the seniors' centre.

That is all for the holiday break and I am geared up for the New Year and more news. May all your dreams for 2011 come true and all that you hoped they would be.
