Sunday the sun was shinning with temperatures expected to rise to the mid-20. The last number of days we have experienced heavy rains leaving the ground saturated making it impossible to do field or garden work. The worst storm was on the night on July 18 when heavy winds, hail and rain hit the area. Most of us suffered downed trees but others suffered serious damage to bins, implement sheds and other buildings. The power here was off for 16 hours. Others suffered longer outages.

On the weekend of July 18 the annual provincial old timer's ball tournament was held, this year at Watrous. From this area Bill Pike, Brett Pike, Randy Pike, Rick Johnson, Keith Pike, Kristopher Blyth and Kevin Pike played with the Silver Lake Old Timers team. Family members and fans travelled to Watrous to support the team. Among those who went were Florence Pike, Lois and Gerald Pike and daughter Melanie, and the families of the players.

Congratulations to Nichole and Darran Blyth on the birth of a daughter, Aubrey Marie. She was born in July 5. Aubrey is a sister for Josh and Gabriel, the 11th grandchild for Judy Furtis.

Among those attending the wedding of Shannon Blyth recently where Lynn and Murray Blyth and Mary (Blyth) and Harold Holtby.

Shannon in the daughter of Jim and Jean Blyth and the granddaughter of the late Bud and Idane Blyth, who were long-time residents of the district and who moved to Cochrane, Alta. where their son Jim and his wife, Jean, and family lived.

Among other guest at the wedding were Shannon's aunt Carol Blyth of Vancouver and her uncle, Bob Blyth also from Vancouver.

We send our best wishes to Shannon and her husband.

On the afternoon of July 24 a lovely bridal shower was held honouring Heather Graham whose marriage to Brant Franks will take place Aug. 6. The shower took place in the C.E. wing of Maidstone United Church and was organized by Heather's bridesmaids and friends. Following the gift opening, guests enjoyed coffee and desert. Heather graciously thanked all for coming and for the many useful and beautiful gifts.

July 16 Murray and Lynn Blyth, Bill Pike and Terry and Rene Pike travelled to Strathmore, Alta. to join Dana Kobes, their brother-in-law, in celebrating his 50th birthday. Dana's wife, Laurie, had organized a "fun" golf tournament which was enjoyed by many guests.
