Storm damage main topic of conversation

Hi there! It's so hard to believe we are into July. June just seems to have flown by. I think the main topic of conversation here has been about the terrible storm we had June 25.

Hi there! It's so hard to believe we are into July. June just seems to have flown by.

I think the main topic of conversation here has been about the terrible storm we had June 25. With the wind at 100 km/h it was no wonder it caused so much damage in the Battlefords. Some of the tenants living on the west side of the Tower had some water damage from the wind and rain coming in.

I'm sure we all hope we never get a storm like that again.

June was busy here. We had a successful garage sale June 1 and 2. A total of $1,000 was raised. Thank you all who came from here and the area. The old saying of "one person's junk is another person's treasure" seems to have proven true.

June 8, we were glad to have the Eagle Hill Band come to entertain. Joan wasn't here as she was sick, so we hope she will be better soon. We enjoyed Neil on violin and Edna on guitar playing old familiar tunes.

Father's Day some of our talented cooks put on a delicious breakfast of ham, eggs and hash browns. Not only the fathers, but all enjoyed the tasty food.

Our birthday party for May and June was held June 18. Celebrating birthdays in May were Walter Major, Toni L'Heureux, Theresa Berton, Edith Lockhart, Bernice Claughton, Shirley Williams, Bep Wyatt and Eleanor Taylor. Those with special days in June were Anne Loades, Vivian Bertsch, Judy Slind and Delia Thunderchild. Congratulations to all our celebrants.

We were pleased to have the Three Gents come to entertain. Unfortunately Gordon Racicot couldn't come as he was not well. So, we send our best wishes to him and hope he'll soon be better. However, we did enjoy Gene, Frank and Allan on guitars and accordion.

Some of our tenants either had visitors or went visiting.

Laurine Wohlburg spent two weeks in the Qu'Appelle Valley with her daughter. She reported a nice visit and enjoyed the change of scenery.

Cecile Dupuis is happy to have her son, brother and sister-in-law from Fort Albernie B.C. come to visit. Cecile and her son went to Cut Knife to take in the 100th birthday events there. Cecile's brother and his wife will be attending a 50th anniversary in Battleford. I'm sure you all had a wonderful time together, Cecile.

Ann Ewanchuk reports that the end of May and beginning of June was emotional for her as one of her best friends, Sylvia Buziak, and step-sister, Barlisa Zayec, passed away. However happy events followed with her granddaughter, Roxann Jordon, graduating in Regina with a degree in education. Ann travelled there with her daughter Erinka and son-in-law Rory Jordan

June 10, Ann joined her daughter Erinka in the Bridge City Boogie in Saskatoon. They walked five kilometres in one hour and 10 minutes.

June 16, Ann attended the baptism of her 13th great-grandchild, Bryn Laura, daughter of Danielle and Scott Scherger. Godparents were Lesha Ewanchuk and Chris Scherger.

June 23, her son Orest and daughter-in-law drove her to Edmonton for the wedding of her nephew Ryan Nykiforuk and Lisa Holdner. Ann's son Evham and wife Debbie Ewanchuk from Fort St. John, B.C. and son Roman and wife Liz, daughter Roma and Guy Baurelle and many relatives from other provinces attended the wedding. Grandson Kyle Closen was MC.

It sounds like you had a very busy, but enjoyable time seeing and visiting with so many of your family, Ann.

Ada Pasutto travelled to Moose Jaw with her daughter Carol to visit her granddaughter Raina Morrison. She enjoyed a relaxing time at the Temple Gardens Mineral Spa. She also enjoyed granddaughter Kaylee Ross's baptism June 24 in Lloydminster.

Presently Ada is enjoying her son's company. Ron and Marilyn from Vernon, B.C. and their daughter Chelsea from Calgary are all visiting her and their father Mario at River Heights Lodge.

I won't be submitting any news for July and August. Hopefully I will have a big column in September.

I hope you all have a wonderful summer.

Take care everyone and see you in September.
