Once again, Maymont Central School is full of activity. The staff started Aug. 26 and the students arrived Sept. 3.

Mrs. Sarah Ficko is away this year caring for her new baby daughter, Anna. We are pleased to have Rachel McAllister, an intern, working in the Grades K and 1 classroom. She will be in the school until the end of December.

Our enrolment this year is about 150.

An assembly was held in the gym on opening day. The staff and students observed a moment of silence to remember Kelly Langley. He was a student in our school and lost his life at the end of June. He would have been in our graduating class this year. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends. His presence will be missed in the school.

Our welcome back breakfast was held Sept. 10. We were glad so many community members were able to attend. Everyone was treated to fresh fruit and muffins. The spirit awards were handed out to the high school students.

Our volleyball and soccer teams are in full swing. We are pleased to have Marsha Amson and Michelle Nelson coaching our senior girls' volleyball team. They attended their first tournament in Medstead where they placed third.

The junior boys' team has already attended two tournaments. They won the C division in Loon Lake and played well in Edam. They only had six players that day, so they tried their best.

The junior girls attended a two-day tournament at the North Battleford Comprehensive High School. They advanced to the playoff round and then lost to the comp team.

Our soccer teams played home games against Cando. The girls were victorious and the boys played well. Our goalie, Mark Armitstead, hurt himself shortly after the game started. Thanks to Connor Garrett for stepping in to mind the net. It is a tough position to play and he did well.

Elementary house leagues have started. They are busy playing some exciting games of soccer. So far, the scores have been really close.

The milk program, organized by Mrs. Stott and Ms. Gillatt, will begin in October.

We are proud of all our students' accomplishments. This summer, Brayden Harris was a member of the softball team that won the silver medal at the Western Canadian championships. Well done, Brayden.

Caitlyn Gray, a graduate last year, has made the SIAST volleyball team this fall. We wish her the best and hope she enjoys her experience.

Kelsie Fouhy, another graduate from last year, has received a provincial General Proficiency Award. This award is given to students to celebrate their academic excellence and encourage their pursuit of post-secondary education. Congratulations, Kelsie.

Clay Ellis, a Grade 5 student, won the year-end KCRA peewee steer riding. Good work, Clay.

The junior girls' volleyball team will be hosting a volleyball tournament Sept. 28. Come out and support the team and watch some volleyball.

During Welcome Back Week, we had dress-up days and noon hour activities. The days were Crazy Hair Day, Gender Bender Day, Way Back When Day, Character Day and What Are You Wearing? Day. Many students and staff participated in these days and the outfits were fun and interesting.

There was no school Sept. 23 as staff were participating in professional development.
