HUMBOLDT — The new school year presents a wealth of new opportunities for teachers, parents and staff throughout Humboldt.
This upcoming school year also presents an opportunity for St. Augustine School to try out their brand new electronic sign that was installed during the summer.
Cal Theisen, the school’s principal, said there is much to learn but it will be an important tool for communicating with parents and the community.
“We send stuff out anyway. [The sign] is just a really visible way of parents being able to see what’s going on at school. We’re looking forward to that.â€
Teachers are already busy in preparation for the upcoming year, Theisen said, with this week prior to the first day of school being full of teacher development and prep sessions.
The fall will be a busy time for student athletes, with St. Augustine being represented at cross-country, flag football and volleyball to kick off the school year.
This will also be the time for the school to discuss goals for academic excellence with their learning improvement plan, Theisen said. This year, St. Augustine will focus on improving core areas: math, reading, and writing.
St. Augustine will be hosting a welcome back barbecue on Sept. 12 and a welcome assembly sometime at the beginning of September in order to welcome new faces to the school.
Longtime teacher and St. Augustine staff member Brenda Bay celebrated her retirement at the end of the school year which means the school will welcome Dennis Corcoran at the start of the year. Kody Steadman will also join the St. Augustine faculty as a relief teacher.
