May 20 was the first day for quite some time that the wind was not blowing. I really enjoyed the calm day.
Someone once said spring in our part of the world comes all of a sudden. It's here. The birds - hummingbirds, gold fiches, hawks and many more - are back. Violets, buffalo beans, Saskatoon and other blossoms are out and everything is green and beautiful. Seeding is well advanced. So far, there are not too many mosquitoes.
Josh and Gabe Blyth had a busy winter playing hockey and now are into summer sports. They are playing rugby with a Lashburn team and, of course, are involved in track and field events at school in Maidstone.
I don't know whether the eclipse of the sun was visible here Sunday. It was taking place about 5 p.m. If it was visible here, it was not seen by those who were outside.
Some district residents thoroughly enjoyed the Scott Woods show that came to Lashburn Hall May 18. The show includes lots of fiddle music by award winning Scott Woods and those who travel with him. This year's show featured the music of fiddle legends including Don Messer, Graham Townsend, Al Cherny and King Ganam. The program also included step dancing, this year by a champion dancer, Kyle Waymouth, who has performed across Canada and many parts of the United States.
The Scott Woods show comes to Lashburn on a regular basis and if one is interested in top notch fiddle playing and step dancing, it is a good opportunity to see both.
Gully Gus says, "The mind is like a parachute. It doesn't work unless it is open."
