The Neilburg/Marsden Minor Hockey Association advises a special slot has been created, twice a week, for children to skate with sticks and pucks allowed. This is designed for all ages and abilities and has been broken into two separate days and times for the safety and fun of all who attend. Peewees, born 2001 and previous, can practice Tuesdays from 4 to 5 p.m. Atoms, born 2002 and later, take to the ice Thursdays from 4 to 5 p.m. Helmets, gloves and skates are mandatory.

Skills Sessions have also been developed to provide players with an opportunity to enhance their fundamental skills in a positive learning environment. The focus of these on-ice sessions is to strengthen their skating, passing and shooting.

Participants will be broken into smaller groups/stations based on their age and/or ability. Here they will receive extra instruction to improve on an individual basis at their own pace. All ages and abilities are welcome.

A coach mentor from the Saskatchewan Hockey Association has assisted the local group in launching this new workshop. The first session was held Nov. 16, and will continue on subsequent Fridays. There is no charge for children who have already paid minor hockey fees. If you are not a regular hockey player, a $50 fee is required for both Sticks and Pucks and the weekly Skills Sessions.

The Neilburg seniors held their monthly Games Day Nov. 5 at the Friendship Korner. Marrian Graham and Della Thom teamed up to win the A side of the shuffleboard tournament. Jean Ball and Shirley Nuspl were the runners-up. On the B side, Les Christensen and Marlene Washenfelder were the winners. Vonnie Rutherford and Pat Worman were the runners-up. Merle Freeston was the lucky raffle winner.

After the regular soup and sandwich luncheon, cribbage was played. Merle Freeston and Jean Ball tied with Della Thom and Linda McGarry with both pairs holding high hands. The low players were John McGarry and Toots Doolittle. There will not be a Games Day in December. These will resume in January 2013.
