A sound system was bequeathed to the Maymont Seniors' Centre by Bev Tournberg, who passed way Jan. 2.

Maymont Seniors' Centre potluck and entertainment was held Feb. 26. A new musician was introduced that evening - Pat Reddekopp, bass guitar player. Way to go, Pat. You sounded great.

The seniors' centre also received a very special gift, donated by Bev Tornberg who passed away Jan. 2. Bev donated a sound system to be used at the Maymont Seniors' Centre. Bev was originally from Maymont. Her mom and dad were Tom and Ada Bates. Her grandma Bates was a Rogers, also from Maymont; her parents were Ransom and Rachel.

Bev always loved music. They would sing hymns all the time at home as her grandma Bates was the church organist. Bev had a very special teacher and it was because of that teacher she learned a lot of the hymns by heart. Bev's grandma saved and bought Bev a piano which she learned to play beautifully; her sister Val now has that piano.

Bev didn't have a lot of friends when growing up so singing and playing piano was kind of an outlet for her. She taught herself to play the melodic and, as some of us know, she absolutely loved jamming with everyone. You would see Bev and Roy at any jams that they could attend.

Maymont was her home. That's where her love of music started and that music helped get her through a lot of dark days. She just wanted to give something back to Maymont. Bev has always been known for her kindness and generosity, not to mention her smile. She will surely be missed by all.

A ham supper library fundraiser will be held at Sonningdale at the seniors' centre March 23, 5 to 6:30 p.m., with bingo at 7 p.m.
