Linda Ard was guest of honour at an 80th birthday celebration at the Do Drop In June 7.

The Sons of Norway could be found at Meota June 6 for their annual golf tournament at the Meota Golf Course and for Norwegian whist at the Do Drop In. Eight people played golf but no one got pictures of the winners. At the hall there were five tables in play with the top scores going to Irene Carlson, second Judith Walker, third Vern Iverson and fourth was Murray McCrimmon.

A tasty potluck supper was enjoyed by everyone along with fine fellowship and drinks. At 7 p.m. they commenced their evening program playing canasta, with three tables of four players and one of six players. Everyone had a good evening.

Duplicate bridge winners at the Do Drop In Tuesday evening last were Gerry Fernandes and Vern Iverson. Second was Glen and Julie Moore.

The birthday party held at Battlefords District Care Centre for the 100th birthday of Walter Ard was well attended with a full house in the rec room. The ladies from the Presbyterian Church catered a lovely luncheon with angel food cake, strawberries and whipped cream for everyone. Then Walter and Linda cut the birthday cake which was passed around for all to enjoy.

Guests were there from Fort McMurray, Alta., from as far east as Hamilton, Ont., and from as far away as New Zealand. From Fort McMurray were Greg Lambert and his son Joseph. From Ontario were nieces of Walters - Susanne and Melissa. And from New Zealand was Michele Willis. Other Alberta visitors were: from Edmonton, Louise Ries; from Wetaskiwin, Joyce Rowland; from Taber, Beth Wynne; from Leduc, Donna and Al Lambert and their daughter Susan and her children Santana, from Turtleford, and son Dorian Lambert, from Edmonton - all nieces of Linda's. Nieces Shari and Lori Pearson drove down from Lloydminster.

Lots of pictures were taken and '100' birthday cards presented. A total of 64 people signed the guest book.

After Walter's party, family gathered at the Do Drop In for an early birthday party for Linda Ard's 80th birthday, coming up in December. There were a few from the Meota Chorus who joined them and a couple from Eastern Star. A good turnout of family members was appreciated as they don't get together that often and of course the same ones came who were at Walter's party earlier in the day.

Caterer Pearl Hawkins set out a delicious buffet supper and she got many compliments for her tasty food. The Meota Chorus entertained the crowd with their music and antics. When Linda cut the birthday cake, she shared the honour with a nephew, Jim Shepherd, who turned 60 June 6, and with Joyce Rowland, who turned 65 June 11.

The only program was when everyone stood to tell about their relationship with "Aunt Linda;" otherwise folks just spent their time visiting, admiring a couple of babies and so on. It was a very pleasant evening and Linda really appreciated everyone who came out. There were 46 at this party.

Shirley and Lawrie Ward drove out to Kamloops, B.C. to visit his brother Clarke. From here they went to Vancouver Island where they celebrated birthdays with his sister Doreen Anderson. Doreen turned 80 May 17 and Lawrie turned 75, and it has been many, many years since they were together to celebrate their birthdays. They were away 27 days and had a very good trip, arriving home May 26.

On June 18, the Meota Hobby Band will entertain at Valley View Towers I in North Battleford from 7 to 9 p.m. This is open to the public and always enjoyed.

On June 18, the regular senior's meeting will be held at the Do Drop In at 10 a.m. followed by a potluck lunch with guests from Edam coming to join the Meota seniors for an afternoon of socializing and games.

Visiting from Saskatoon for a month is Pearl Hawkin's mother, Eugena Swayze. She enjoys spending part of the summer here and taking part in local activities.

We took a drive up to Spiritwood Sunday and found about an inch of hail just east of Belbutte. It sounded like deep slush as we drove through it. It only lasted for a couple of miles but the fields were white. It was small pellets so hopefully not much damage was done. It snowed up north on the weekend, too, at Beauval. So we just keep complaining that it's raining too much.

It is good to see the crops and gardens coming up, even though it has been so very cool.
