Nisse Lodge held their annual soup and pie night Oct. 17, with proceeds for the Sons of Norway Foundation. This is a Canadian scholarship program with 10 students earning a $800 bursary toward higher education. We have had several young people from our lodge families earn this award in the past years.
We played Norwegian whist in the afternoon and then more guests and members came for the supper, about 35 in all. Whist winners were Lorna Pearson, Muriel Tebay, Ken Tucker, Anna Tucker and Shirley Tebay. We had five pots of soup and a wonderful variety of pies. It was a good day.
Playing cards is getting to be a more favourable pastime with the approach of winter when the yardwork is being finished for the season. The duplicate bridge players had a good evening Oct. 21 with the top score being earned by Beatrice Novlan and Jerry Fernandes and second high were Glen and Julie Moore. They played at the Do Drop In.
Canasta was played at the Do Drop In Oct. 24 with four tables in play. Top scores were Charles Walker and Arlene Walker and second were Beulah Corbiel and Linda Ard. Again it was a pleasant time of visiting with everyone.
Glaslyn has a couple of interesting events coming up - there's a Halloween masquerade dance Oct. 31, starting at 9 a.m. in their community hall. Wear your costume and mask and save some money. Also the Glaslyn Elks Trade and Craft Show is set for Nov. 8 at the community hall from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., so you have all day to browse and shop.
Watch for the date when Glaslyn rec board is hosting Donny Parenteau for an evening gala.
Robert Iverson has had the old house removed and the lot cleaned up. Every new development is an improvement. It has surely improved the scenery. East of the new fire hall, progress is ongoing for the new house that Arlene Walker is building as the basement is nearing completion. The basement along Beach Drive is also nearing completion. The big garage is having cedar siding put on and is looking right grand.
A good deed was performed by Mark Chapman Oct. 25, when he brought his motorized hedge trimmer and tidied up the hedge at the Do Drop In. It had become quite overgrown over the sidewalk and not acceptable. The seniors really do appreciate his work. Thanks, Mark.
Another date to watch for is Turtleford's chuckwagons and community harvest.
The wellness clinic is set for Nov. 12 from 12:15 - 2:30 p.m., at the Do Drop In.
A baby girl was born to Jodi and Jonathon Hosegood, in North Battleford, Oct. 17. She was named Avery Leigh. Proud grandparents are Dale and Debbie Oborowski of Meota and Lorette and Shane Hosegood of North Battleford.
Sonya Bouvier from Calgary, Alta., spent her birthday weekend with me, her Gramma, and we did several interesting things.
Sunday noonish the geese were gathered at the south end of Jackfish Lake in masses - from the foot of Rotsey's hill right across to the west side of the lake - mostly white ones but with a few Canada geese also.
