There were 11 pots of chili to taste before the three judges could decide which contestant was the winner of the $100 cash prize at the Marsden Recreation Board's chili cook off Feb. 23. The judges gave each sample a number between one and 10 for colour, consistency, aroma, taste and aftertaste. Then the three numbers were added together and the two with the highest total (out of 150 possible points) were declared the winners.  Facing the difficult task of selecting the winners were Tim Woods, Denise Porter and Andrew Jackson.

The Marsden Recreation Board held a snowmobile rally and chili cook-off Feb. 23, from the Marsden Community Hall. It was a poker-hand type rally with the lucky winners drawing tokens out of a bag at each checkpoint.

Taking home first prize money was Mason Laclare. Layla Scott was in second position and Regan Kekula was third. Dustin Weinkauf had the low hand. The hidden hand was a tie between Dave Erick and Glen Ketchmer.

The course was approximately 50 miles in length and there were 74 riders participating. Door prizes were supplied by Agland and the Neilburg Co-op grocery store and the Hidden Hills Cattle Company.

After the snowmobile course was completed, the snowmobilers came back to the hall for a chili supper. There were 11 different kinds of chili to choose from. Nadine Procter won the $100 prize for the top pot of chili. Carol McKay, representing the Marsden branch of the Synergy Credit Union, took second prize of $50.

The judges for the event were Tim Woods, Andrew Jackson and Denise Porter. These judges were each given a sheet to grade the chili on a scale of 1 to 10 for its colour, consistency, aftertaste, taste and aroma. The numbers from the three judges were then added together to determine the final winners.

The weather was great and a good time was had by all.

The Neilburg seniors held their monthly Games Day Feb. 4 at the centre. Les Christensen and Mabel Scoular teamed up to win the A side of the shuffleboard tournament. Edith Christensen and Irene Ducherer were the runners-up. On the B side it was Vonnie Rutherford and Shirley Nuspl at the top of the scoreboard. Jacquie Goodall and Tom Poppleton were in second place. The lucky raffle winner was Ria Wiens.

After the soup and sandwich luncheon was served, cribbage was played. Irene Ducherer and Laurel Weiss had the high hands. Once again, there was a tie for the low players between Arlene McAleer and Lillian Doolittle and Gordon Allan and Brian Gibb.

A bridal shower was held Feb. 25 in the Neilburg Seniors' Center in honour of Bethany Wiebe, daughter of Pat and Cheryl Wiebe, who will be married soon. Congratulations!
