Snow blankets the landscape

Snow began falling Saturday morning and it wasn't long before there was six inches of heavy, wet snow on the doorstep. We all hope this "dump" of snow melts. The weather forecast is for more cool weather and snow showers.

I hope the birds got away to their homes in the south before the snow fell. The geese were still around Saturday.

Raccoons have been thriving in this area for the last few years. Although they are a "cute" animal, they can be destructive and, at times, dangerous. They like to live in vacant buildings and have their own way of getting into buildings. They are nocturnal animals, so people are often not aware of their presence.

St. Paul's Church Forest Bank will be celebrating a Harvest Festival Service Oct. 28 at 2:30 p.m. Following the service a potluck supper will be held at the Forest Bank Community Centre at 5:30 p.m. All are welcome.

Christine Pike and Maureen Bexson returned Oct. 18 from a 10-day trip to Ontario where they were guests of a former Forest Bank resident, Betty (Tasker) Anderson, who lives on an acreage outside of Puslynch. They also spent some time visiting her sister, Pat, who lives on an acreage in the Hamilton area.

While there they were busy visiting many interesting areas. They were impressed with St. Joseph's Farmers' Market, which is located in a large, two-storey building. The market features excellent local produce as well as many other wares.

Many historical places were also on the agenda. Among them was the birthplace of the celebrated poet, Pauline Johnson, who wrote poems celebrating her Mohawk heritage. There they visited Chief's Wood and the Mohawk Chapel.

The McMichael Art Gallery features a large collection of paintings by the Group of Seven and proved to be interesting.

Also of great interest were visits to greenhouses and arboretums and viewing the beautiful fall colours.

Christine and Maureen flew from Edmonton to Hamilton, which is not far from Puslynch.

Keith and Eileen Evans and Pat and Bob Bullock enjoyed a Roughrider football game in Regina on the weekend.
