Snow and more snow at the lake

Well, we have more snow, and many are busy moving it around to enable easier movement of vehicles and persons.

Well, we have more snow, and many are busy moving it around to enable easier movement of vehicles and persons. We won’t complain though, one spot in Alaska got 10 inches in one hour! The scenery on Thursday with the heavy hoar frost on the trees was beyond beautiful, one wanted to take pictures of every tree – they were unreal!

Beulah Corbiel had the biggest surprise possible on her birthday Jan. 12 when her two sons and their wives came for the day. Blair and Erna came from Beaumont, Alta., and with them were Marcel and Kim from Layton, Utah. She was delighted to have her family for the day and enjoy a meal together.

Four tables played duplicate bridge Jan. 25 at the Pioneer Hall in the city with top score by Jean Lawes and Fraser Glen, next were Donna Scherman and Catriona Winterhalt and third were Gerry Craig and Mary Greenwald.

Friends of Marilyn McGown on Facebook are enjoying her amazing photos of birds and deer – one trip out she saw seven snowy owls and 30 mule deer– pretty exciting travels. Using a long range camera, she has some great pictures.

Jan. 26 found four tables playing Canasta in the Do Drop In. It was a rather poor visibility day but one car came from town and one from Edam, so there were enough for a good afternoon of play. Top score went to Art Jones and Gwen Lacerte, second high were Charles Walker and Gail Hilderman and third were Arlene Walker and Shirley Gough. Snacking during games is the way we do it, and lots of visiting along with that.

The North Battleford Lutheran Church Celebrity Night on the evening of Jan. 20 featured a full course delicious beef supper, followed by the entertainment. This included portrayals of Anne Murray by Doreen Duchnitski, Rita McNeil by Kathy Watson, Garth Brooks by Dave Tupling, Dolly Parton by Cymric Leask, John Denver by Jeff Arndt, George Jones by Carl Ross and Elvis Presley by Mel Deagnon.

These latter two performers with their flamboyant portrayals, having been friends for a long time, helped make this a memorable night.

Special accolades to Carol Deagnon for starting the ball rolling and doing a good job as MC and stage hand.

Elvis’s performance was supplemented by adoring young teenage idols emerging from the audience, two nubile young chicks getting up close and a busy security guard looking after Elvis’s well being. During the singing of Teddy Bear, Maureen Ross and Carol Deagnon threw teddy bears out into the audience.

The back-up band consisted of Raymond Seib, Doug Sylvester, Doreen Duchnitski and Jeff Arndt.
