Sloughs developing in seeded fields

We have just had a few days of rain, sometimes very heavy. It has rained well over an inch. Yesterday I noticed many fields had sloughs here and there in areas that had been seeded. Sunday brought us quite a bit of cloud and some sun.

I always look forward to seeing the butterflies when spring rolls around. There have been many kinds already including the small blue butterfly that comes earlier than others. Now, when the lilacs are blooming one of the most beautiful butterflies, the tiger swallowtail, is here. The swallowtail must really like the lilac nectar. They are a common butterfly in Saskatchewan. In the fall they migrate to the southern States. They are another of nature's wonders.

Congratulations to local Grade 12 graduates, Cassie Huxley and Jason Silvester. Cassie graduated from Maidstone High School and Jason graduated from Lashburn High School. We wish them both happiness and success in what they choose to do in their future.

Our congratulations to Maverick Young and Samantha Stanford who were married June 21. The wedding took place at Maverick's acreage where the couple will be making their home. We wish them many years of happiness together.

By the time this column is read school will be out for the summer holidays. To all students, "Enjoy the summer, make every day count! It will go all too quickly!"

Gully Gus says, "Do you remember this poem which says in part; Your future lies before you like a path of driven snow. Be careful how you tread it for every step will show."
