Shuffleboard tournament planned for Jan. 18

The year 2014 opened as cold as 2013 left, so we are used to it by now, but that doesn't mean we really like it that way.

The year 2014 opened as cold as 2013 left, so we are used to it by now, but that doesn't mean we really like it that way. Last weekend again brought some relief so one could get out and walk and do whatever you had to do, like taking down the Christmas decorations.

Many folks have been spending time in the hospital or recovering from some illness or surgery, so we wish them all speedy recoveries.

The monthly meeting of the Do Drop In was held Jan. 10 with a dozen folks in attendance. A shuffleboard tournament is slated for Jan. 18 and organizers are hoping enough folks turn out to make it work. Yvette's number is 306-892-2167. If you aren't a regular shuffleboard player, come on out and give it a try, for extra practice, come to the Do Drop In Mondays at 1:30 p.m. and see how easy it is. The February tournament is set for Feb. 22, again phone Yvette to get your name on her list. The noon lunch at the community hall is expected to take place on Feb. 21, as usual. We are still trying to get Kaiser going on Friday afternoons at 2 p.m. We just play for fun and learning, so come on out. The regular next meeting is scheduled for Feb. 13 at 10 a.m. at the Do Drop In.

Lawrie and Shirley Ward enjoyed many of their family members at Christmas and at New Year's they drove to Tofield, Alta. to join their granddaughter and her family.

The Meota Men's Chorus is rehearsing at Logie Hall in North Battleford again, on Monday evenings, under the direction of Lisa Hornung and the Gallery Singers are meeting at the Battleford United Church for practice Tuesday evenings.

The Hobby Band will entertain at Caleb Village from 3 to 4 p.m. on Jan. 24.

Norwegian Whist was enjoyed at Valleyview Towers II in North Battleford Jan. 10, with four tables in play, hosted by Bev and Murray McCrimmon, on the seventh floor. Bev is recuperating from knee surgery quite nicely, Muriel's Tebay's hip op was very successful and Ken Tucker's getting over surgery as well. Anna Tucker ended up back in hospital that same day, sorry to say. High score in whist went to Yvonne MacPherson, second Arlene Walker, third Anna Tucker and fourth Rita Peterson. Having the score sheet with the most zeros was Mildred Kleiv. That day found the temperature back near -10 C, so was nicer to be out again. A delicious lunch was set out which we all enjoyed. Missing was Shirley Tebay who wasn't feeling well, as well as a few who have chosen to go south for a while.

Mistake last week, when I said it was 4:30 a.m. here that it was 9:30 a.m. in OZ, but it should have read 9:30 p.m. the next day.

Monica and Ted Brown of Meota are proud grandparents of a new little girl, Kaylee Priscilla, in Red Deer, Alta. She was born on Dec. 3 to their daughter Darcy and Jeff Branscomb. Congratulations to all!

Yvette Lessard of Meota spent an early Christmas Day with her family Dec. 21and Christmas Day was spent with her daughter Claire and Andy Neovard and grandchildren in North Battleford.

Yvonne Mackereth of Meota accompanied her brother Leon and Joanne Proulx to Lac la Biche, Alta. to spend a few days after New Year's with their sister and two brothers.

The Meota Hobby Band will be playing for the Valentine Dance in Meota Feb. 14, so mark your calendar. Tickets are for sale at several businesses in the village or from band members at $10.00. So, for a nice evening of entertainment, this will be good.

Contract bridge winners Monday night were Robert Iverson first and Mary Greenwald second. It was a pleasant evening out.
