Happy New Year!

What a winter this has turned out to be. Plenty of freezing temperatures, strong winds and abundance of snow has kept many of us appreciating the warmth indoors. But when the sun comes out from behind the clouds, it shows a pretty winter picture.

We have many new residents by now. It is good to see them calling Tower I home, signing up for and playing shuffleboard and joining in card games. A warm welcome to each one.

St. Valentine's Day decorations were a treat. The lounge, first floor hallways and front entrance are beautifully dressed in its honour. The decorations are carefully chosen and arranged in a tasteful setting, giving a warm and inviting look to the building. Thanks to the decorating committee.

A virulent type of flu is making the rounds, causing some folks to be feeling greatly unwell. A sincere wish for a speedy recovery to all those affected.

A high spirited shuffleboard tournament took place Jan. 31. What fun was had. Players and spectators alike enjoyed the lunch of hamburger and potato soups with a variety of sandwiches and pies. The board and stones were kept smooth and shining by Joan Bannerman, who also tended the score sheet. The games ran smoothly, having five referees - Alice Horn, Phyllis Maloney, Winnie Hamm, Ruth Hrynewich and Betty Moore - to oversee things. Many excellent shots were placed, even by those who did not win a prize.

Winners and runners-up in each event were: A Event - Dorreen Svare and Mary Zawada, Ruth Hrynewich and Amelie Murray; B Event - Winnie Hamm and Lillian Leduc, Eva Osterman and Isobel Jones; C Event - Phyllis Maloney and Minnie Pozdrowsky, Betty Moore and Louis Johnson; D Event - Alice Horn and Mae Johnson, Karen Taylor and Muriel Johnson

Much appreciation to all those who helped to make this a pleasant day.
