HUMBOLDT — Humboldt and area musicians will have another chance to win big with this year’s Arts Humboldt Sound Cheque Showcase.

The Nov. 3 American Idol-type contest will see a Humboldt-area based artist winning a chance to go on to record music with Saskatchewan recording artist Randy Woods.

Larry Jorgensen, Arts Humboldt’s interim president, said this is a way to give a Humboldt and area artist a chance to produce music.

“The last couple of winners we’ve had, they’ve gone through and actually recorded some stuff. Ethyn Beggs [the 2017 winner] is on the radio.â€

Woods came highly recommended to Arts Humboldt from artists such as Ray Whitton and Trevor Ross who have also worked with Woods, Jorgensen said. Woods has coached and produced Showcase winners for the last three years.

“Everybody we’ve sent his way has had positive feedback of him and vice versa. He’s been able to work with everybody we’ve sent him.â€

The prize money comes from the Canadian Radio-Television Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) and their Canadian Content Development Fund. Canadian broadcasters contribute to the fund in order to promote the development of Canadian content.

This year’s judges includes Woods, as well as Ryan Joesphson and Katie Nichol.

Previous winners have included  Alanna Hoesgen, Rayne Gray, Beggs, and Julia Ramsay.

The event is on Sunday, Nov. 3 at The Elizabeth from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
