Shovels well used already this season

The big news these days is the weather. Remembrance Day morning, the thermometer read -24 C. As the day progressed we enjoyed a sunny day. The hoar frost and snow on the trees made beautiful scenery. There was no wind.

Shovels and other snow removal items have been well used already. If the snow keeps coming, we will have record amounts before the winter is over.

Many district residents observed Remembrance Day by attending service in Lashburn or Maidstone. Others watched the ceremonies on Parliament Hill in Ottawa via TV.

The gardening group in Salmon Arm, B.C. dedicated this year's fall flower show to a former member, Eileen Lambert. Eileen had contributed to the flower show for many years. An avid gardener, she showed many prize-winning flowers, particularly roses throughout the years. On show this year were pictures of her flowers and a fitting tribute was given.

I think nature was also taken by surprise by the weather. During the past week flocks of geese were still flying south. A rabbit in my yard was still sporting its summer, brown coat.
