Lakeland Library Region would like to challenge everyone in Lakeland Library Region to visit their local library this month to renew their library membership or get a new library membership. There are 30 branches of Lakeland Library Region extending from Lloydminster to Borden and Meadow Lake to Macklin.

A library card is something that you don't see on a school supply list, but it should be included, and it is free. No payment required.

Schools have libraries too, but public libraries are not quite the same as school libraries. A school library collection follows the curriculum guidelines and there is a limited selection of items in a school library. A public library card provides access to many, many more items in libraries all throughout not just the region, but throughout the whole province.

A SILS (Saskatchewan Information and Library Services) library card can be used to borrow items from public libraries from Oxbow to Pierceland, from Maple Creek to Nipawin. And you don't have to leave your home to search or request items. With a computer and Internet access, you can search the SILS catalogue for items. Search by author, subject, title, keyword, series title or journal title. Then, your library card and PIN will allow you to request items to be delivered to the closest public library branch to where you live. Check out the hours of your local branch.

Your library card can also be used to borrow items if you visit another library in the region or in the province. You can then return items to your local branch and they will be returned to their original location.

What type of items do you like to borrow? Print, A/V or electronic? You can borrow books, CDs, audio books, videos, DVDs, magazines and much, much more. Borrow e-books or audio books online. Download free music with Freegal. Learn a foreign language with Mango. Students and everyone can also access free databases with their public library card. These databases may help students with projects or homework.

Parents are encouraged to visit their local library and get their child or student a library card. Share the experience and get a library card for yourself too.

A library card will be the smartest card you own.
