Heavy Sunday traffic on Highway 4 must have been upset to have to drive 60 kms when there was no work going on anywhere. Is it too much trouble to cover the vital signs for the day? It is surely a test of patience and an opportunity to cause drivers unsafe situations. Another point of interest is the fact that the line of light posts at the 13-mile corner have been taken down – a surprise to drivers watching for their turn there.

My granddaughter travelling in northern British Columbia says the price of gas there is 139.9, at McBride. Here it seems to have gone down a bit.

Why could the 13 inches of rain that fell in 24 hours in Hawaii have fallen in B.C., somewhere that is fighting to survive the fires there. Reading reports from northern B.C. on Facebook one grandson came home tired and dirty and said, “Gramma we’ll be fighting this fire until it snows.â€

Duplicate bridge was played in Meota Aug. 21 with top score going to Margaret Dyck and Maureen Campbell, second high were Eric Callbeck and Vern Iverson and third were Catriona Winterholt and Cletus Scherman. Aug. 23 saw a dozen members of Sons of Norway from Meota and several folks from North Battleford drive to Saskatoon where they were treated to a ‘Pizza plus’ noon meal, with the Saskatoon group. After 1 p.m. the group split with about half going bowling and the other half staying to play Norwegian Whist. There were four tables of cards. Top scores for those with blue score sheets were Judy Walker and Marcel Richard. Top for the pink sheets were Linda Ard and Lois Campbell. High scores at the bowling alley went to Nancy Iverson and Alice Soiseth. Coffee and treats were shared before all headed homeward. One car had to be back in North Battleford to play bridge, another for Canasta, while others enjoyed a leisurely drive. It was great to see three combines working in one field along the way and see some fields already taken off. The fall colours and temperatures are proving that fall is here and the days are getting shorter so quickly.

Canasta was played at the Do Drop In Aug. 24 with top score going to Dave Ottas and Arlene Walker, second were Janice Morton and Marion Ottas, and third were Barbara Soloninko and Linda Ard. Lunch and socializing closed the evening and we left under a light rain.

The passing of another Chitek Lake pioneer at 96 years of age was Therese Crossland on Aug. 25. Her service was held in Leoville and her interment and luncheon at Chitek Lake on Aug. 30.

A walk about town Sunday evening shows that many landowners are not keeping their hedges trimmed along the sidewalk, so a person has to walk beside it. It is their responsibility to keep hedges trimmed and tidy.
