Borden Friendship Club held their potluck supper and birthdays Aug. 28, with 38 members out, plus seven entertainers, to enjoy a wonderful supper and cake and ice cream. On hand to celebrate August birthdays and blow out the candles on the cake, brought by Bev Assman and Laura Loeppky, were Audrey Baker, Anne Kohut, Ed Rawlyk and Reuben Derksen.

MC Ed Neufeld told a few jokes then introduced the entertainers - BJ and Friends with Jim Andres playing mandolin and dobra guitar, Clarence on banjo and fiddle and Ruth Peters on guitar and vocals; Vi and Bill Johnson on guitar and vocals, Sam Bueckert who played guitar, sang and yodelled and Ruben Remple doing vocals. The group sang a number of gospel songs, and Bill had a few jokes to relate between numbers. Sam did Tom Connors songs Hockey Game and Roll On Sask., then the group did many more old-time country and western tunes. They sang and played for over an hour.

Harvest is well underway around Borden, with many of the pea crops combined and canola swathed and ready to go this week. The peas are averaging about 55 bushels per acre, but the hot dry weather is hard on the pastures and the wheat crops.

Radisson Royal Purple met Sept. 2 in the Radisson town office with six members present. Reports were heard from friendship night and school awards held in June and from the ice cream booth at the Radisson Fair which brought in over $500 in profit. The sunshine committee sent 17 cards out in Borden and Radisson over the summer break. Happy Birthday was sung to Audrey Baker and the Lodge raffle went to the Lodge.
