Seniors' fun day hosted in St. Walburg

St. Walburg seniors hosted the Saskatchewan Senior Fitness Association Fun Day May 7. Registration was from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Seated at the registration table were Gladys Carnell assisted by Rosemarie Veenstra.

Registration was from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Seated at the registration table were Gladys Carnell assisted by Rosemarie Veenstra. Muffins and coffee were available on arrival.

In attendance were seniors from Rosetown, North Battleford, Maidstone, Livelong, Mervin, Turtle Lake, Turtleford, and the hosts St Walburg. Bowling took place in the morning as did some tables of Cribbage and Kaiser.

A delicious cold plate meal was served by the St. Walburg ladies at noon. During lunch we were entertained by guitar player and singer Lou Getz who rendered the older cowboy and western songs we all remembered.

Whist, Cribbage, Kaiser and Scrabble followed lunch. A number of door prizes were provided by St Walburg club and drawn for.

Bowling winner - men's high over average - was Daryle Grant of Turtle Lake. Second was Joe Hoffman of St Walburg and in third was Brian McLeod, Rosetown. Ladies' high over average winner was Kay Ogg of Rosetown, with Jean Knowlton of Turtleford second and Sandra Halseth of Livelong third.

Whist winners were Don and Lynn Taylor, Livelong. In second place were Mara Opral, North Battleford and Agnes Opral of Livelong and in third place were Joan and Jean Walden, Livelong.

In Kaiser (no last names provided) first went to Inga and Erma, second to Vicky and Frank and third to Mae and Carol.

Margaret MacEachern and Jean Stewart of Maidstone topped Cribbage play. In second were Joyce Opperman and Vicky Tallefison, Livelong and third went to Ted and Peggy, St Walburg.

Scrabble winner was Sandra Halseth of Livelong with Rosemarie Veestra of St Walburg second and Irma, third.

The final 2013 SSFA Fun Day will be held at Rosetown July 13. Registration is at 8 a.m. Games to be played are nine holes of golf, bowling, Cribbage, Kaiser, Whist, and Scrabble. Registration deadline is July 5 with Edna Foster, 306-882-3106. See you there!
