The Borden Bruins Senior Girls' Volleyball Team competed in Rosthern Oct. 24 and 25, winning all their games and winning the tournament against Rosthern, Hague, Warman, VCA and Aberdeen. The week before the senior girls played in Hafford and placed first in that tournament and the senior boys' team placed second in Langham Oct. 18. The senior boys play in Bellevue/Wakaw Nov. 1, at home Nov. 8 and playoffs are Nov. 15, 22 and 23-29.
The junior girls are in playoffs this week - Oct. 28. If they win, they play Oct. 30 and, if they win again, play again Nov. 1. The senior girls start playoffs Nov. 8.
The Grade 12 class held a bottle drive Oct. 26 in and around Borden and gathered a great many bags of bottles, cans and juice boxes. Thanks to everyone who donated them.
The Halloween family dance in Borden is Nov. 1, with proceeds going to the local firefighTers. The evening starts at 8 p.m. in the community centre with local band Jam. There will be costumes, prizes, a 50/50 draw and fun for all ages, as well as a late lunch.
The Borden Friendship Club held their potluck supper Oct. 22 with 41 out for supper, and five guests. Blowing out the candles on the large cake, brought by Jean Graham and Ilene Youchezin, was Peter Thiessen. The program was local talent with the Friendship Club Sing-A-Long Chorus singing four songs, Rose Mandziak singing three songs and Ed Neufeld playing guitar and singing two songs. A hilarious skit called She Has to Go followed, where the family is talking about the family dog going in to a home and the mother overhears them but thinks it is her. Actors were Jean Hryniuk, Sandi Long, Elizabeth Derksen and Rita Smith. Peter Thiessen sang, with his wife Mary playing the piano, and she had a piano solo medley with Peter closing with He Is Here Alleluiah! and God of the Mountain. MC Ruben Rempel told a few humorous stories or jokes in between items.
Borden Lions Scholarship 2014 - 2015, a scholarship of approximately $500, will be made available by the Borden Lions and the former Langham Lions. Applicants must have a strong connection to the district served by the Borden Lions, meaning they graduated from either Borden School or W.W. Brown School in Langham, but exceptions may be made at the discretion of Borden Lions. Applicants must be in full-time post-secondary education (university, technical school or business college) for a minimum of two years and must have successfully completed at least one year of their post-secondary studies. The deadline for applications is Jan. 23, 2015.

The Borden Lions held their annual turkey supper in the community centre Oct. 26 and had around 150 attending. Proceeds from the supper go to many different organizations in the community and the Lions also donate to diabetes, the CNIB, Dog Guides training, the Lions Eye Bank of Saskatchewan, Third World countries and to individuals and families in crisis.
