Second World War translator passes away

Sympathy is extended to the family of Albert Joseph "Maurice" Lane of Neilburg. He passed away in Unity Jan. 6 at the age of 95 years.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Albert Joseph "Maurice" Lane of Neilburg. He passed away in Unity Jan. 6 at the age of 95 years. Maurice leaves to mourn his passing: his loving wife, Connie; his children, Karen (Kim) Putnam, David (Elaine) Lane, Barbara (Marty) Forster; as well as his nine grandchildren, Reed, Shannon, Shaelyn, Daniel, Alex, Madison, Luke, Rachel and Mauria.

A funeral service was held from the Neilburg Community Hall Jan. 10. The Royal Canadian Legion offered tribute to their comrade in the form of an honour guard. Maurice was a translator during the Second World War. He loved to garden and was a loving husband and father who will be dearly missed. The interment was in the East Manitou Cemetery

Neilburg Composite School is looking for hot glue guns. If you have one that you no longer need or want, the school would be happy to take it off your hands. Also, they are looking for a stationary recumbent bike.

Mrs. Kerr-Goodfellow reports that planning is already underway for the graduation ceremonies at NCS. Monday, Jan. 20 cap and gown photos will be taken. This is an optional event. A meeting with grads and parents will be held Wednesday, Feb.5. This will be an informational meeting about graduation requirements, budgets, graduation ceremony details and other key elements. It is expected a minimum of one family member be in attendance. Mark Saturday, May 3, 2014 on your calendar as it is graduation day!

February 4th will be the annual ski trip to Table Mountain for students in Grades 4 through 9. It is hoped the weather will co-operate. Grade 11 students will undergo an all day career testing session Tuesday, Feb. 25. They will be taking the "capes, copes and cops" test. Career facilitator Deb Maclean will be booking parent and student meetings with the Grade 11s for March 25 and 26.
