Well, here we go; time to bring you up to date on the happenings of Edam and area.

The Grade 4, 5 and 6 classes held their annual science fair May 23 giving young scientists in Grade 4, 5 and 6 the opportunity to showcase their knowledge. The students worked very hard to create a science fair display that answered a specific question using the scientific process. The displays we saw were incredible. It was exciting to see such a variety of topics and such enthusiasm from the students. It takes a great deal of dedication and interest in the topic for a student to create a science fair display and we are proud of everyone's hard work.

The grades 4-6 students would like to extend a huge thank you to Andrea Thom, Mike Lee, Lorne Long, Gloria Evanoff, Cherelle Cadrain and Brandon Doom for volunteering to judge the displays.

The following students showed outstanding work and imagination. In Grade 4, first was Abbey Harty with Got Greasy Hands? There was a tie for second between Tyne Cole's Soakin' Machine and Haylee Olson's Which Drink Will Stain Teeth the Most? In Grade 5, winning first place was Jaxon Harty with Snap! Crackle! Pop! and second were Jade Cole and Abigail Millard with Does the 5 Second Rule Work? Grade 6 first place winners were Candace Greening and Tiana Olson with Fabulous Fabric. Second was Brooke Bonsan with Candle Race.

Winning honourable mention in Grade 5 were Laney Blanchette with Soggy Potatoes and Bailey Cole with Run Away Pepper. Also participating in the science fair from Grade 5 were Kyler Lascelle with Store-bought vs. Homemade and Jacinda McConnell with Butter Me Up!

The awards were presented to the winners, May 31. Congratulations to you all.

Judy Carignan of the Legion along with the Legion's vice-president, Frank Poole, were on hand to present awards May 31 to the students who advanced in the Legion poetry, essay and poster contests. This year advancing to zone were Tristan Wagner, Brooke Bonsan, Trayton Poole and Shanae Blaquiere, with Kelcey McCarthy and Emma Head moving on both to zone and district. Congratulations on a job well-done by these young people.

While the Legion members were present, there was a presentation made to the McCaffrey family. In memory of Legion president, Charlie McCaffrey, an original work by Emma Head was given to be placed in the Legion. This was the students' way of showing appreciation for all that Mr. McCaffrey contributed to the Remembrance Day services at the school and for always being there to present the awards for the Legion contests.

The alternate day for the elementary track and field meet was June 18. Thankfully the weather co-operated and the event was held.
