Six John Paul II students were awarded Crusader of the Month status at the school's April 20 Lenten Mass.

Division III winners included Grade 9 students Paige Parnitsky, Tiandra Ewanchuk and Dexter Mercer. The Division IV winners were Johnathan Shynkaruk (Grade 10), Alvin J. Paskemin (Grade10) and Garron Horn (Garde12).

Paige Parnitsky was nominated on the basis of her devout effort in the SADD club. She has been active in the group since her membership began two years ago. Activities have included efforts to raise funds, promoting social awareness and events and attending SADD's national conference. Paige's enthusiasm and positive nature has enhanced SADD at JPII. Paige was classified as being an "extremely valuable member of the group."

Tiandra Ewanchuk has been involved in numerous activities this year at John Paul II. As an athlete, Tiandra participated in volleyball, basketball, badminton and track. She was the captain of the volleyball team this year and proved to be an effective leader. Tiandra has great team spirit and gives 110 per cent, no matter the sport! Her nominator commented that Tiandra is a person you can count on, whatever the need.

Dexter Mercer, has also been extensively involved in athletics at JP II. Dexter has been a member of the volleyball team, basketball team, badminton and track. Dexter was co-captain on the volleyball and badminton teams. Always a gentleman on the court, Dexter is an excellent representative for the school.

Johnathan Shynkaruk's nominator remarked that Johnathan has been an obvious leader in the school since Grade 8. His quiet, pleasant and respectful manner illuminate the school's gospel values. He is a strong presence in the SRC and an excellent role model for his fellow students.

Alvin J. Paskemin is a well known crusader. AJ is a gifted guitarist. He has shared his talent many times at school celebrations, liturgies and open houses. In particular, AJ is a fantastic role model for the school's First Nation students as he demonstrates pride in his culture and heritage.

Garron Horn's nominator gave praise to his leadership skills. His positive attitude and sense of team was a key factor in bringing the drama group together in their production of Just Like Us. Garron has also made a significant contribution to John Paul II with years of service in the SRC.

All six crusaders were described as conscientious students who take their academics seriously. They were credited with being excellent models of our Catholic Christian values. Obviously, the shool appreciate the generous gift of time they offer and the model of leadership they provide.
