With the 2012-13 school year beginning, John Paul II's student representative council has planned a number of activities to keep the students and staff busy.

The first event of the school year was the annual school picture day. Students and staff were photographed in the school library for the yearbook and student cards.

Meet the staff night takes place Sept. 12 at 5 p.m. Parents are welcomed into the school to come meet their students' teachers, and are given a tour of the school.

Sept.18 is the first school mass of the year.

As an exciting close to an eventful September, the tornado hunter will be coming to the school to make a presentation to the students.

During the month of September, many, such as Key Club, SRC and yearbook clubs will be accepting new members. Many sports are beginning soon as well, such as football, volleyball, cross country, soccer and golf. The school is also considering starting a debate club.

The school is also offering a new Tourism 30 course, as well as an online version of Christian Ethics 30, Social 30, and Fr. Information Processing 10.

John Paul II Collegiate is also welcoming 10 exchange students from across the world this year. They come from Japan, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, and Switzerland.

The school is also welcoming seven new teachers: Mr. Puff, math and physics; Mrs. Good, functional integrated program; Mr. Fullerton, art; Ms. Clemens French; Mr. Donahue, Social Studies 10; Mr. Jurgens, technology courses; and Mrs. Rohs, who's in charge of Grade 8 homeroom and arts education.

Three teachers in the school now have different positions. Mr. Loeppky is now the vice-principal, Mrs. Stynsky school chaplain, and Mrs. Maloney is now one of the school's guidance councillors.

"Welcome to all the new staff and students, and I hope you all feel part of our community," said Carlo Hansen, principal. "I encourage all students to get involved."
